About me
I'm Roni Gorodetsky. I run Agrinovo, which makes IoT hardware and cloud software for farms. I build all of it myself: the circuit boards, the firmware on them, the backend, the web and mobile apps, the sales and the support.
Most of that work is in agriculture and aquaculture. It is an unglamorous domain with an unusually hard set of constraints. The hardware sits outdoors for a year at a time on a battery, the network is whatever cellular coverage happens to exist, and the people using the software are standing in a field or over a tank rather than sitting at a desk. Very little of what works in an office survives contact with any of that.
I work across the whole stack because in this domain the layers cannot be separated. A decision about the power budget on the board changes what the firmware can do, which changes what the platform can show, which changes what the business can promise a customer. I would rather hold all of it and make the trade deliberately.
Why I write here
The useful knowledge in this work is mostly undocumented. Almost nobody writes it down, usually because the people who know it are busy and the people with time to write have not been in the field.
So I share my process here: how I build each thing, the problems I ran into, and how I solved them. No theory I have not tested.
Working with me
A small number of times a year I advise other teams on the same problems I solve in my own company. The services page says what I take on and how.
Where to find me
My code is on GitHub, and new writing goes out over RSS. To reach me directly, use the box at the end of this page.
Where I started
Before Agrinovo, starting in high school:
Get in touch
Tell me what you are building and where it is stuck. I read every message myself.
